In recent years, the stair chair lift has become increasingly popular as a mobility solution for many people, not just for those with severe mobility problems. SILVER CROSS researches different stair chair lift manufacturers. SILVER CROSS is NOT a stair chair lift manufacturer. The following is an information overview.

Stair Chair Lift Overview

You no longer have to change or limit your daily routines because you can’t go up and down the stairs. With a stair chair lift, you have access to your entire home again.

A stair chair lift will allow you to be independent and self sufficient and for most people these are essential for their quality of life.

Your home’s structure will not hinder the installation of a stair chair lift because the lift is installed on the stair treads. Also, there are many models and designs that would suit any home.

No extra power requirements are necessary.

A stair chair lift may be the answer, if moving from your home is not an option or renovating your home is too costly.

Stair Chair Lift Options

Standing Lift - When the user cannot bend his/her legs to place his/her feet on the footrest, this allows the user to stand rather than sit. This is also used when there is an extremely narrow stairway. This is a costly option.

Exterior Package - This enables the lift to be used outdoors. An exterior lift is not easy to operate if snow and heavy rain are factors in the location of the lift installation.

Flip-Up Rail - This allows for the rail in the bottom section to be flipped up so that it is out of the way. Manual and power are available for some models. This is an expensive option ($1,000+) and can have problems over time.

Hand-Held Pendant Control - It is questionable if a starlift is advisable if the user cannot use the lift themselves. This is available with a few models.

Keyed Chair - A key must be used to operate the chair. It must be turned to the "on" position.
This option adds $200.00 or more and is rarely needed.

Commercial Lift - These lifts are installed in schools, churches, clubhouses etc. When a lift is installed in a non-single family dwelling, a permit, government approval and lift upgrades are usually required.

Weight Capacity More Than 300 lbs. - Consider this option if the user is close to 300 lbs. This option is only available with a few stairlifts.

Track Lengths More Than 16' - There are a few models that have lengths up to 45'.

Seat Depth Of 18" - A deeper seat should be considered if the user is 6' or more or is in a wheelchair and requires more seat stability.
